From The Uncontested
Welcome to The Uncontested, a collection of audio and visual stories set in a fictional town.
Seriously like.
We arrived in the Town after driving all night. Sleep gets in your eyes. We passed the Motel where Iʼd arranged to meet Bobbi. Its many windows stare down over the lives of the people below. Long term occupancy seems to be the order of the day. Sheʼd been working late shifts and was gonna catch some sleep. Weʼd go by later that night.
How long
We headed for a cafe to watch the early morning unfold. The streets began to fill. A homeless man surfaced, carrying his lot in a bag, and made to leave his living quarters for another day. His eyes were out-to-lunch, something that he could do with. I later heard his story. A hero.
Where are you calling from
The waitress gave us directions to the park. Inside, there was an old man sitting on a bench. The weight of his loss hung around him like a wrecking ball. The noise dissolved as we entered. Peaceful. A while later the old man left and he looked somehow better, walking lighter.
The Life and Soul of the party
We lay out all day, swapping some food, drink and insults with a group of ones beside us. They invited us to a house party. We stayed a while to get lit. The hostess was all things to all people.
When we reach the other side
It was time to go to the Motel as the moon was coming up. We headed for Bobbiʼs room. I looked in the window to check if it was the right one. She was there but she didnʼt look her normal self. Was she arguing with someone? I knocked for some time. She came to the door smiling and turned around to the mirror. I saw no-one.
Radio
She took us to a club. The night was warm and I could hear the same song playing out of different cars, windows fully down. The vibe was great. The club was heaving and we became immersed in its core. She seems better now...
