Review by Wiryanto Dewobroto

Extempore's latest album, Bitternis, is a masterclass in avant-garde jazz. The band, consisting of saxophonist Martin Küchen, bassist Johan Berthling, and drummer Raymond Strid, have created an album that is both challenging and rewarding.

The album is a collection of six tracks that feature the trio's improvisational skills. Each track is a journey through complex rhythms and dissonant melodies, with the musicians pushing each other to the limits of their abilities. Küchen's saxophone is particularly impressive, with his solos ranging from beautiful and melodic to harsh and abrasive.

The album's title, Bitternis, is fitting, as the music is not always easy to listen to. However, those who are willing to put in the effort will be rewarded with a unique and engaging musical experience. The album is not for everyone, but for fans of experimental jazz, it is a must-listen.
